- 1 1/2 ounces añejo tequila
- 1 1/2 ounces homemade sweet and sour mix
- 3/4 ounce orange liqueur (cointreau or triple sec)
- 2 cups water (for sweet and sour mix)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for sweet and sour mix)
- 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 5 – 7 small limes)
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 medium lemons)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, simmer water and sugar to create a syrup until dissolved, then let it cool.
- Once cooled, mix in the fresh lime and lemon juice to form the sweet and sour mix.
- Prepare the glass by moistening the rim with lime and coating it with kosher salt, then fill the glass with ice.
- In a shaker, combine the añejo tequila, sweet and sour mix, and orange liqueur with ice and shake until chilled.
- Strain the mixture into the prepared glass over the ice and garnish with a lime wedge.
Notes
For a sweeter margarita, adjust the amount of sweetener in the sweet and sour mix.
Try adding a splash of fresh fruit puree for extra flavor variations.
