Ingredients

  • 8 ounces spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup butter (unsalted)
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons italian seasoning
  • ½ cup white wine (such as sauvignon blanc)
  • 1½ cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  • Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water and drain.
  • In a large skillet, add the olive oil and butter, melting over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  • Pour in the white wine and let it simmer for about 3 minutes.
  • Add the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Incorporate the reserved ½ cup of pasta water and stir. Simmer for another 5 minutes until thickened.
  • Remove the skillet from heat.
  • Stir the grated parmesan cheese into the sauce until melted.
  • Add the cooked spaghetti and toss well to coat each strand.
  • Garnish with additional parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes before serving.

Notes

You can substitute the heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter version.
For a spicy kick, adjust the amount of red pepper flakes according to your preference.
