- 2 large apples, cored and sliced (granny smith or honeycrisp work well)
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 cup apple juice or apple cider
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 1 tablespoon water (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
- Season the pork chops with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Layer the sliced apples and onions in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Place the pork chops on top of the apple and onion mixture.
- Whisk together the apple juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl and pour it over the pork chops.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours until the pork is tender and fully cooked.
- If desired, transfer the pork chops to a plate and mix cornstarch with water, then stir it into the cooking liquid. Cook on high for about 5 minutes to thicken.
- Serve the pork chops topped with the apples and onions, drizzling the sauce as desired.
Notes
For maximum tenderness, ensure to cook the pork chops for the recommended time on low.
Use a variety of apples for added flavor complexity.
Optional thickening of the sauce can enhance the dish, depending on preference.
