Description

Sugar Plum Fairy Cookies feature buttery softness, vibrant flavors from plum jam, and an eye-catching appearance. Easy to make, they are ideal for festive occasions.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cardamom
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 tbsp vanilla bean paste
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1/4 cup plum jam
  • 1/2 cup pink sparkling sugar
  • 1/2 cup freeze dried berries
  • 1 cup butter, softened for frosting
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 34 tbsp heavy cream

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices in a bowl.
  • Cream softened butter and sugar together until fluffy, then mix in egg, vanilla, and orange zest.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Scoop dough, fill with plum jam, and roll into balls, then coat in pink sugar.
  • Flatten slightly, bake for 9-10 minutes until golden, then cool on racks.
  • Prepare frosting by processing freeze-dried berries, then mixing with butter, jam, sugar, and cream.
  • Pipe frosting onto cooled cookies and add additional sprinkles for decoration.

Notes

These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
To freeze, place the cookies in a single layer, then transfer to a freezer-safe container for up to three months.
Ensure butter is softened but not melted for optimal dough texture.
