Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 cup plain non-fat greek yogurt
- 1 egg plus 1 teaspoon of water; optional if you want to add toppings such as sesame seeds or poppy seeds
Instructions
- Combine the flour and Greek yogurt in a bowl using a wooden spoon.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until it forms a ball.
- Flour your hands and the surface well, as the dough is sticky; incorporate extra flour as needed.
- Cut the dough into four equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a log about 4 to 6 inches long, then pinch the ends together to form a bagel shape.
- Place the bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silpat.
- For the egg wash, beat the egg with one teaspoon of water, then brush it on top of each bagel and add desired seasonings.
- Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for about 22 minutes.
- Remove from the oven, increase the temperature to 450°F, and bake for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until the tops are browned.
- Store the bagels in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
Notes
Make sure to flour your hands and work surface well to prevent sticking.
The bagels can be topped with your choice of sesame seeds or poppy seeds for added flavor.
Feel free to experiment with different seasonings on top.
